Where can I find information on the history of art deco?

I'm doing a paper and presentation on the Art Deco style and history. I need some references to look to find my information. Do you have any ideas other than Wikipedia?

I think the best way to begin a discussion of Art Deco is in contrast to Art Nouveau. In its simplicity and modernity is a conscious reaction against the Art Nouveau, however, in its elegance and appeal to a rich and elite of the world, in fact, it incorporates and strengthens the impact of Art Nouveau. For examples, see the work of Tiffany glass, and Lalique. A good starting point to explore this contrast is the essay by Richard Whitehouse, "Art Nouveau to Art Deco." [1] Of course, you may want to read a story, just like in the general section from wikipedia on Art Deco, but if I were you I would jump at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modern (1925), which after all provided the name (= Decorative Arts Art Deco) and an international focus on the movement. You can read the article a magazine shows the world. [2] Here is a brief excerpt that uses the characteristics identiftying Movement: Art Nouveau had favored a kind sinuous grace in its lines – through the vines draped or languid movements of exotic dancers. Cubism of Braque, Gris, Picasso, however, announced a new taste for sharp angularity. Translated into the decorative arts of furniture, clothing, and architecture, the roughness is smoothed in purity of its lines to the line we now call simplified. "Everything that clearly distinguishes the ancient ways of life has been rigorously excluded from the exhibition 1925 Waldemar George wrote. The new style is aggressively modern, taking its lead from the forefront in the other arts to express a new zeitgeist. "Finally, for many references to specific artists in chronological order (and the study of real artists is finally the only way forward), you may want to check ArtCyclopedia [3]. Links to specific artists here provide a beginning and suggest guidelines more than you may be time to go. I would particularly recommend Rene Lalique (glass manufacturer), William Van Alen (architecture) Walter Teague (industrial design, such as cameras, cars, etc.), Paul Manship (sculptor), and Erte (painting).
