A History of Ceramic Tiles
Ceramic tiles are very popular today because they are extremely easy to maintain, very profitable in the long term and they look great. However, they are also more expensive to install even though most people tend to turn to savings life they have in their use. So what exactly is the history of ceramic tile?
Wonderful tiles and have a very long history that goes back as far as ancient Egypt nearly 6,000 years in 4000 BC. They say that the tiles are the simplest, the oldest form of art ceramics and tiles throughout history have been made by many cultures including the Babylonians, the Islamic Empire and the Assyrians. Early tiles can be seen in Tunisia, Iran and the Middle Kashan varied many mosques in the east of the Koranic display using scripts colorful tiles relief from around the 12th century.
In the 13th and 14th centuries, many churches of Europe was paved with tiles decorated and Holland has even become an important center for trade in pottery in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the 19th century – Great Britain itself has added even more prestige to their methods of mass production of tiles. However, tile oldest in Western Europe have been found in various places around England in late 10th century AD. Tiles have been considered only for the rich and wealthy sponsored numerous churches and monasteries with these wonderful creations.
In the early 16th century, methods Moorish tiles found their way across Spain and a wonderfully beautiful example of their handiwork can be found on the Alhambra Palace in Granada and the Great Mosque of Granada. The method of Dutch tin glazed tiles to spread to English.
The Netherlands has become famous for their tiles while in 1544, the first pottery was established in Delft. This picturesque Dutch town became famous in less than fifty years for their handicrafts and tiles were highly sought after. However, successfully, there was competition and the Dutch were unable to take longer. Many potters have gone bankrupt. The style of Delft is considered a tile great tradition of making European style Maiollican side of Italy and Spain. The methods applied to ceramic they were using a box process based on glass produces such distinctive effects that they have been held in high esteem.
The Maiollican tiles were varied and colorful, and as their surname ( "paviamenti") suggests, they were widely used for flooring. Tile Delft fell away from the use of many colors and instead diverted to the influence of Chinese blue and white combinations are now common.
English tile making had a massive boom with mass production of tiles and it was very accelrated by the rise of the industrial revolution. It fell at the turn of the century and the mantle of mass production was taken by the Americans. Americans should be competing with imports in English and have never lost their competitive edge. Ceramic tiles – a true craft that has stood the test of time.
